Journalism Equipment Fund 2021-22

While journalism students may not have to buy quite as many textbooks as the average university student, we make up for what we save on reading materials in journalism-related equipment.

The recommended equipment list for the 2020-21 school year for third and fourth-year journalism students amounted to over $500 in total — an amount we know many students may be struggling to afford amid the pandemic.

The Carleton University Journalism Society is looking to help alleviate some of these financial burdens for journalism students in the Fall 2021 semester through our first ever journalism equipment fund. Students who anticipate having difficulty affording the recommended equipment can apply for one equipment package each (microphone, recording and filming). These packages will then be purchased and shipped out via Amazon.

While we may not be able to provide equipment packages to each and every journalism student who applies, we hope what we are able to provide will make a difference in some students’ lives by aiding with the stress of affording their education, as well as allowing them to pursue their journalistic goals outside of the classroom. The society will be providing four (4) microphone packages, four (4) recording packages, and five (5) filming packages. Please see the below document for specifics on what these packages include.

Applications will be due August 25th, 2021 at 11:59 p.m.
