Mentorship

The JSOC mentorship program is an opportunity for first, second, and even third year students to connect with upper year journalism students. It’s a great way to get to know more people in the program, as well as get advice about classes, assignments, extracurriculars, and adjusting to life at Carleton!

This year, we’ll be re-introducing our mentorship program for first-year students. The program will consist of six weeks’ worth of weekly sessions with an upper-year journalism student, who will be responsible for answering any questions you might have and providing any advice needed pertaining to j-school or journalism as a whole. Mentors will be paired with mentees based on common interests and goals for the mentorship program.

The deadline to apply for the six week sessions is Wednesday, September 15 at 11:59 p.m. (EST), with the program starting the following week. After six weeks, JSOC will be offering appointment-based sessions students can register for if they have any additional needs mentorship may cater to.

We hope to hold an in-person mentorship mixer in the winter semester, but this will be dependent on COVID-19 restrictions and rules implemented by the university.

We anticipate that the mentorship program will prove to be a helpful resource to help you through your first few months of j-school, which we promise will be some of the most exciting of your university experience!
