Events
JSOC hosts a variety of events to cater to the diverse range of journalism students at Carleton.
In a typical year, our year representatives plan and execute two year-specific events, while our executive team focuses on organizing program-wide occasions, such as our annual J-Gala and Welcome Night. Each of these events are intricately planned by a team of dedicated journalism students to ensure all aspects of accessibility are considered.
Over the years, we have hosted…
J-Prom
An annual celebratory event exclusive to graduating journalism students, their plus-ones, and the Carleton University staff that helped get them to where they are.
Mentorship Night
A night that provides new students seeking advice from older journalism students an opportunity to get to know their peers (and the program) a bit better.
J-Gala
A program-wide event that invites all journalism students to celebrate their successes together; typically a semi-formal or cocktail event.
CBC Tours
An RSVP-only event that welcomes a limited number of journalism students to tour the CBC Ottawa studio and experience what their future workplace may look like. *
*Due to COVID-19, JSOC is unable to guarantee CBC Tours will be available this year.
Dodgeball Tournaments
An annual tournament where journalism students go head-to-head in teams of 10 for a small fee. Let out your academic frustrations with friends and take home the ultimate prize: bragging rights and the “Champions” title!
Welcome Night
Typically hosted at the beginning of the fall semester, Welcome Night is an event featuring various journalism-related clubs and societies open to students at Carleton, including The Charlatan, Her Campus, and CKCU FM.
